Prominent Pakistani Cleric Warns of Enemy Plots to Sow Discord via Social Media

A grand ceremony honoring the Iranian martyred leader and welcoming the holy month of Muharram was held in Chakwal, Pakistan, drawing a massive gathering of scholars, religious figures, and people from all walks of life.

Hawzah News Agency- The event, organized by the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan in the city of Chakwal, commemorated the sacrifices of the resistance leader and marked the upcoming arrival of Muharram with broad participation.

Addressing the gathering, Hujjat-ul-Islam Aref Hossein Vahidi, Vice President of the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan, paid tribute to the elevated status of Iran’s martyred leader. He lauded his tireless struggles, sacrifices, and pivotal role in defending the ideals of Islam and the resistance, stating, "By offering his greatest asset in the path of God, the martyr of the revolution proved that the front of truth will never surrender to arrogant powers and the currents of oppression."

Invoking the epic of Ashura, Vahidi added, "Just as Imam Hussein (PBUH) stood firm against tyranny, despotism, and deviation and refused to pledge allegiance to falsehood, today, the followers of the Hussaini school continue the path of resistance, perseverance, and the defense of truth, inspired by that great movement."

Turning to regional and international developments, the Pakistani scholar noted that under the current global circumstances, the blessings of the pure blood of the resistance martyrs and their fallen leaders have strengthened the front of truth and dismantled enemy schemes. He added that free nations are witnessing the failure of powers seeking to impose their will on independent countries.

With the month of Muharram approaching, Vahidi stressed the importance of the content presented at mourning gatherings. "The primary goal of mourning for Imam Hussein (PBUH) is to keep the message of Ashura alive, to elucidate the objectives of his uprising, and to introduce pure Islamic teachings and the virtues of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT)."

The Vice President of the Shia Ulema Council firmly urged speakers, eulogists, and organizers to avoid raising topics that fuel division, resentment, and harm the unity of the Islamic Ummah. He described the preservation of Muslim cohesion and the strengthening of solidarity as among the most vital needs of the Islamic world at this critical juncture.

"No individual or group has the right to insult the sanctities of any Islamic school of thought," he insisted. "All must take steps to preserve religious sanctities and strengthen national and Islamic solidarity."

The senior Pakistani cleric issued a stark warning regarding the role of social media in shaping public opinion and cautioned against elements seeking to create rifts between Islamic sects. "The enemy is using various media tools and cyberspace to spread hatred, inflame sectarian sentiments, and create rifts in society," Vahidi said.

He stressed that the public—particularly the youth—must remain vigilant against rumors, fake news, and provocative actions, and must not allow the country’s security, stability, and cohesion to fall victim to divisive agendas.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Vahidi further stated that mourning for Imam Hussein (PBUH) is a legal, religious, and constitutional right of citizens. He called on authorities and executive bodies to provide the necessary conditions for the optimal holding of mourning ceremonies.

"Responsible bodies must prevent any obstacles in the path of holding religious ceremonies and pave the way for mourners to enjoy complete freedom in performing their religious rituals," he said.

Commenting on recent tensions between Iran and the United States, Vahidi commended Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and support regional peace and stability. He noted that Pakistan's mediating and peace-seeking role at this sensitive juncture has enhanced the country’s standing and credibility on the international stage.

In his concluding remarks, Vahidi reacted to certain political statements regarding America’s role in establishing global peace, stating, "Attributing peace achievements to the US president does not align with existing realities."

He added that a large segment of the Pakistani people view US policies as the root cause of numerous regional crises and conflicts. They believe the tragic incidents and the killing of civilians in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iran are the direct result of support for aggressive and warmongering policies. Consequently, Vahidi stressed that officials must pay closer attention to public opinion and the views of the people in their policy stances.
