Hawzah News Agency- Dr. Hamid Al-Noufali, a professor at a university in Oman, reacted strongly to a recent tweet by the US president in which he took pride in the destruction of a non-military infrastructure target inside Iran.
“By God, is it possible for an ordinary person—let alone the head of a state—to appear before the world and boast about blowing up a civilian bridge, a target so obvious and easy to bomb? I am in shock at this moral degeneration that I am witnessing,” Al-Noufali wrote.
He added that such statements represent a steep fall in both human and international standards by a man who once held the helm of the United States.
A pattern of barbarism
The Omani academic noted that Trump’s remarks are not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of reckless, dehumanizing rhetoric. “This is not the language of a statesman. It is the language of gangsters who take pride in destruction rather than construction,” he said.
Al-Noufali further pointed out that celebrating the targeting of civilian infrastructure violates all international norms and conventions, including the Geneva Conventions, which explicitly protect non-military targets during armed conflict.
Regional voices turn against Washington
The professor’s condemnation adds to a growing chorus of regional voices—including from US-allied Gulf states—who have distanced themselves from Washington’s aggressive posture toward Iran.
“Even in countries traditionally aligned with America, people are horrified by this level of vulgarity and inhumanity. Trump’s behavior has isolated not only himself but the entire American political class,” Al-Noufali stated.
Contrast with Iranian dignity
The academic drew a sharp contrast between Trump’s boastful tone and Iran’s composed, principled stance. “While Iranian leaders speak of resistance, martyrdom, and defending the oppressed, the American president speaks of blowing up bridges as if it were a sporting achievement. This reveals who truly upholds human values and who has abandoned them.”
Global outrage growing
Al-Noufali’s remarks reflect a broader international sentiment. In recent days, political analysts and ordinary citizens across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia have taken to social media to condemn the US president’s remarks, with many describing them as “savage” and “unworthy of any civilized leader.”
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Trump’s pride in destroying a bridge used by civilians is the definition of terrorism. Imagine if any other leader said this about US infrastructure.”
Call for accountability
The Omani professor concluded with a call for moral accountability in international politics. “The world must no longer remain silent when those in power boast of war crimes. Whether in Washington or anywhere else, leaders who celebrate the killing of innocent people and the destruction of civilian life must be named, shamed, and held accountable.”
