Hawzah News Agency- In a statement issued by his office in the holy city of Najaf, Ayatollah Sistani offered his condolences following the departure of the senior Marja, who was among the most distinguished figures of the Najaf seminary in recent decades.
"With utmost sorrow and regret, I received the news of the passing of the righteous scholar and religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammad Ishaq al-Fayyadh, may God's mercy be upon him," the statement read.
Ayatollah Sistani lauded the late cleric's tireless dedication to the service of knowledge and its seekers, noting that Ayatollah al-Fayyadh distinguished himself through prolific writing, teaching, and other scholarly pursuits over a lifetime of commitment to the Hawza.
"His absence leaves a tremendous void that, but for divine grace and providence, will be exceedingly difficult to fill," the Grand Ayatollah declared, underlining the magnitude of the loss to the Shiite world and the broader Islamic intellectual tradition.
Extending his condolences to the Imam of the Age, Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), Ayatollah Sistani also offered his sympathies to the seminaries, the bereaved family, and believers worldwide.
"I pray to God Almighty to elevate his station in paradise, to gather him in the company of the divine saints and the Prophet Mohammad and his purified household, peace be upon them, and to grant his survivors and devotees patience and solace," the statement concluded.
