Grand Ayatollah Bashir Najafi Mourns: 'The Pillar of Najaf Has Fallen'

Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir Najafi, a source of emulation in holy Najaf, has issued a statement offering his condolences on the passing of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammad Ishaq Fayyadh.

Hawzah News Agency- In his condolence message issued Thursday, Grand Ayatollah Bashir Najafi stated: "On these greatest of days before God Almighty, with hearts patient and faithful to the divine promise, we offer our condolences on the loss of one of the greats of the community and a towering scholar of Islam, the supreme religious authority Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammad Ishaq Fayyadh."

"We extend our condolences for this immense loss—which has left a fissure in the body of Islam—to the presence of the Proof of God, Imam al-Hujjah ibn al-Hassan (PBUH), to the scholars of Islam, to the seminaries, to the esteemed family of the departed, and to all believers," he added.

Grand Ayatollah Najafi went on to say: "May God have mercy upon him. He was to us an elder brother, kind-hearted, and a protector of the noble seminary, sacrificing himself in its preservation and safeguarding. The late religious authority drew from the divine sciences and immersed himself in their depths until he himself became a source for others. He was connected to our great scholars—may God's mercy be upon them—and in their absence, he was a source of solace for us."

He concluded his statement by saying: "Today, the elder and pillar of holy Najaf has left us, departing to renew his pledge of allegiance to the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), at the Pool of Kawthar. Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return, and there is no power nor strength except in God, the Highest, the Almighty."
