In an interview with Hawzah News Agency, Hojatoleslam Zainul-Abidin highlighted Imam Baqir’s (PBUH) pivotal role in shaping Islamic thought. He described the Imam as the founder of a remarkable scientific and educational movement, who, in a period of intellectual confusion, correctly interpreted the Qur’an and preserved the pure teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT). The title Baqir al-Olum, meaning “the splitter of knowledge,” reflects the Imam’s unparalleled contribution to expanding the horizons of learning and understanding within the Islamic world.
“Muslims today can address many of the intellectual and ideological challenges facing the Ummah by returning to the scientific and moral teachings of Imam Baqir,” he said, emphasizing the relevance of the Imam’s guidance for contemporary society, particularly for youth. He added that Islam is a faith grounded in reason and knowledge, and the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) have always encouraged inquiry, reflection, and critical thought.
Hojatoleslam Zainul-Abidin further detailed the Imam’s educational achievements, noting that Imam Baqir (PBUH) institutionalized the teaching of Islamic sciences and mentored hundreds of students who later became key figures in preserving and disseminating Islamic knowledge. The Imam’s approach combined intellectual rigor with ethical and spiritual development, laying the foundations for the Shiite scientific and moral tradition, which reached its zenith under his son, Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (PBUH).
Addressing lessons for modern society, the scholar highlighted Imam Baqir (PBUH)’s emphasis on patience, honesty, justice, and moral courage. “He opposed oppression without engaging in unnecessary conflict, showing a balanced approach that serves as a guide for young Muslims navigating social and ethical challenges today,” he explained.
Regarding acts of worship during Rajab, Hojatoleslam Zainul-Abidin stressed fasting, seeking forgiveness, reciting the Qur’an, and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH) as particularly meritorious. He also noted the historical significance of events such as the Prophet’s Ascension (Mi‘raj), which strengthens believers’ faith and devotion.
Concluding his message, the scholar urged the faithful to view Rajab not merely as a month of ritual worship but as a time for genuine personal transformation. “By embracing the teachings of Imam Baqir (PBUH) in knowledge, piety, and humanity, we can improve our families, communities, and societies, and truly honor the spiritual blessings of this sacred month,” he said.
Rajab, he noted, provides an unparalleled opportunity for self-improvement, spiritual growth, and preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, with Imam Muhammad Baqir serving as an enduring beacon of guidance, knowledge, and moral excellence for all Muslims.
