The Islamic Republic of Iran has participated in the Burkina Faso International Book Fair, held in Ouagadougou, the West African country’s capital, underscoring Tehran’s continued cultural engagement with African nations.

Hawzah News Agency- The six-day event, which is held on a biennial basis, has so far been organized at a regional level, bringing together publishers and cultural institutions from Burkina Faso and several West African countries. The fair was first launched in 2000 and, as it is not held annually, this year marked its 18th edition.

The theme of this year’s fair was “Books, Cultural Identity and Domestic Capacity,” highlighting the role of publishing and literature in preserving national identity and strengthening indigenous cultural and intellectual potential.

Around 90 booths and publishing houses from Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Togo, Cameroon, Iran, and Turkey took part in the exhibition, presenting a wide range of books and cultural materials across various fields.

The opening ceremony was attended by several ministers and senior cultural officials of Burkina Faso, along with ambassadors and representatives of participating countries. Among those present were the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Director General for Africa at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a representative of Al-Mustafa International University, in addition to a large number of visitors from different segments of society.

During the ceremony, a number of officials delivered speeches outlining the objectives of the fair and the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening regional and international cooperation.

Following the opening remarks, officials and guests toured the exhibition hall to visit the various booths. The fair was officially inaugurated by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Culture, Tourism and Arts, who later visited several national pavilions, including the booth of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran’s presence at the fair was aimed at introducing Iranian culture, literature, and publishing capabilities to African audiences, while also expanding cultural dialogue and cooperation between Iran and West African countries.
