Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at the first international conference on the “Theology of Resistance” at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad on Wednesday, Hojatoleslam Sheikh Hassan al-Baghdadi, Director of the Institute for the Revival of the Heritage of Lebanese Scholars, said resistance has taken diverse forms throughout history, adapting to circumstances to thwart hostile objectives.
He emphasized that resistance should not be narrowly understood as armed struggle alone, noting that it has manifested in military, political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions, depending on the needs of each era.
Al-Baghdadi thanked university officials and academics for organizing the conference under what he described as critical regional conditions, underscoring the scientific and strategic importance of the event.
Conveying greetings from Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem, he said he was delegated to attend the conference due to its significance amid current regional developments.
Referring to ongoing regional tensions, the Lebanese scholar criticized what he described as the aggressive and hegemonic policies of the United States and its allies, particularly Israel, accusing them of seeking occupation, control of resources, and subjugation of nations while confronting Islam.
Elaborating on the concept of resistance, Al-Baghdadi said that at certain stages it takes the form of patience and perseverance, citing the Prophet Muhammad’s approach during his time in Mecca prior to migration to Medina. At other times, he said, resistance assumes a direct and confrontational form, as seen in early Islamic battles such as Badr, following divine permission. He added that defensive resistance and steadfastness were exemplified in battles like the Trench.
He pointed to what he described as divine promises to those who remain steadfast, citing Quranic verses and drawing parallels between early Islamic history and contemporary conflicts in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iran.
Al-Baghdadi also referred to recent confrontations, saying perseverance by regional nations, particularly in Lebanon, prevented Israeli forces from achieving their objectives, despite full US support. He claimed Israeli forces suffered significant losses and were forced to retreat.
He further alleged that recent actions against Yemen and Iran resulted in substantial setbacks for Israel, prompting calls for an immediate ceasefire.
Concluding his remarks, the Lebanese cleric questioned whether Israel and the United States would acknowledge what he described as their mounting losses, including economic repercussions, corporate withdrawals, and growing global opposition to their policies.
