Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at the closing ceremony of the International Congress of Mirza Naeini held in the holy city of Mashhad under the slogan “Mirza Naeini: The Pillar of Jurisprudence, Spirituality, and Politics,” Hojatoleslam Khayyat said Mirza Naeini’s scholarly and jihadi life reflected the balance between religious tradition and transformative innovation.
He praised Mirza Naeini as a towering figure of the Najaf school and a leading student of Sheikh Ansari, whose systematic works laid the groundwork for political and social jurisprudence in Islam. Many of Mirza Naeini’s prominent students — including Grand Ayatollahs Hakim, Milani, Hilli, and Bonjouredi — continued his intellectual legacy.
Khayyat highlighted Mirza Naeini’s key role in the formation of modern Shiite political thought, noting his collaboration with Mirza Shirazi during the Tobacco Movement and his advisory role to Akhund Khorasani during the Constitutional Revolution. Naeini’s seminal book “Tanbiyyah al-Ummah wa Tanziyyah al-Millah” remains one of the most influential works defending the Islamic constitutional movement and articulating the principles of religious governance and social justice.
He further emphasized that Mirza Naeini’s thought was rooted not in abstract philosophy but in practical social action, positioning him as a symbol of the struggle against colonialism and intellectual stagnation.
Hojatoleslam Khayyat also noted that the congress fostered renewed cooperation between the seminaries of Qom, Najaf, and Mashhad, describing this connection as a vital step toward strengthening unity among centers of Shiite learning.
He announced that more than 41 volumes of Naeini’s writings have now been compiled and published through the congress — a major step in reviving the legacy of a scholar whose ideas continue to guide discussions on Islamic governance and civilization.
