Ayatollah Shabzendehdar: Mirza Naeini a Model of Knowledge, Piety, and Responsibility

At the Congress of Grand Ayatollah Mirza Naeini (RA), held at the Imam Kazim (AS) Seminary in Qom, Ayatollah Mohammad Mahdi Shabzandehdar, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Seminaries, described the late scholar as a distinguished example of the harmony between knowledge, piety, and responsibility.

Hawzah News Agency- Highlighting Ayatollah Naeini’s intellectual and moral legacy, Ayatollah Shabzendehdar said the eminent jurist reached the pinnacle of scholarship and innovation in the principles of jurisprudence, yet his defining feature was his profound fear of God — a quality that shaped his religious insight and ethical conduct.

He emphasized that Mirza Naeini’s acceptance of religious authority was based solely on duty and divine obligation, not on any desire for fame or leadership. “God knows,” Naeini once wrote, “that I accepted authority only when I recognized it as my duty — out of love for responsibility and scientific piety.”

Ayatollah Shabzendehdar noted that Mirza Naeini lived a modest life, using his personal resources to support and educate his students. His humility, detachment from material interests, and commitment to service, he said, embodied a rare combination of scholarship, moral discipline, and spiritual sincerity.

The senior cleric added that Mirza Naeini showed remarkable care in issuing religious rulings, always prioritizing precision, caution, and respect for religious principles. “His tears in nightly prayers and prostrations reflected his deep piety,” he said, adding that this spiritual depth was evident in all his teaching, writing, and scholarly work.

Ayatollah Shabzendehdar concluded that Mirza Naeini stands as an enduring model for seminarians and scholars — a symbol of knowledge rooted in piety, duty, and closeness to God.
