Ayatollah Saeedi: Iran–Iraq ties must deepen despite enemy plots

Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Fatemeh Masoumeh (SA), Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Saeedi, stressed the importance of strengthening relations between Iran and Iraq, warning that enemies are constantly attempting to create division between the two nations.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking in a meeting with Sayyed Ammar Hakim, leader of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, Ayatollah Saeedi said the deep concern of the Ahlul Bayt (AS) for the land of Iraq reflects its greatness and the value of its people. He recalled the close ties that have emerged between the two countries since the fall of Saddam, both at the level of officials and the general public, pointing to the shared desire for stronger relations.

Ayatollah Saeedi referred to the historic presence of the Late Imam Khomeini (RA) in Iraq during his exile and the warm relationship between the Supreme Leader of Iran and Grand Ayatollah Sistani, noting that visits by Iranian and Iraqi officials to the holy shrines have further strengthened these bonds.

He emphasized the need to safeguard these relations against the harm of enemy plots. “The enemies are always seeking to penetrate and influence the two nations and create a rift between Iran and Iraq. At the same time, both sides must remain committed to further developing this relationship,” he said.

Highlighting the millions of Iranians and Iraqis who participate annually in the Arbaeen pilgrimage and other religious ceremonies, Ayatollah Saeedi stressed that these gatherings take place spontaneously, without propaganda, and provide an important opportunity for unity. He called on officials of both countries to continue facilitating travel and communication for pilgrims.

The custodian also pointed to the strong cultural and religious ties between the two nations, noting that the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Fatemeh Masoumeh (SA) regularly hosts Iraqi processions and sends delegations to Iraq to serve pilgrims, measures which he said help deepen bilateral ties.
