Hawzah News Agency- As the awaited savior of humanity and the fulfillment of the aspirations of all peoples, Imam Mahdi (AS) will usher in an era where beauty, goodness, and righteousness will spread across the globe. The comprehensiveness of his governance is affirmed in many hadiths.
For instance, in a narration, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) quotes Allah the Almighty as saying:
“By My power and My majesty, I will manifest My religion through them (the twelve leaders), and I will make My word supreme through them. I will purify the earth from My enemies through the last of them and appoint him as the ruler over the East and the West of the earth.”
(Kamal al-Din, vol. 1, p. 256)
Another narration from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (PBUH) states:
“The Qa’im from among us... will rule over the East and the West, and Allah will establish His religion through him across the globe, even though the polytheists may detest it. There will remain no place in ruin on the earth except that it will be rebuilt.”
(Kamal al-Din, vol. 1, p. 330)
These narrations clearly indicate that Imam Mahdi’s (AS) government will not be confined to a specific region but will encompass the entire world.
The Center of Imam Mahdi’s (AS) Government
The political and administrative center of Imam Mahdi’s (AS) global government will be the historical city of Kufa. During his era, Kufa will undergo significant expansion, extending to include the nearby city of Najaf. Hence, some narrations mention Kufa and others Najaf as the center of his governance.
Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (PBUH) says in a detailed narration:
“The palace of his governance will be in Kufa, and the council of his government will be convened there...”
(Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 53, p. 11)
It is also mentioned that the Kufa Mosque will serve as the seat of his judicial authority, where Imam Mahdi (AS) will pass judgments and administer justice.
Historically, Kufa has held great significance for the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). It was the capital of the caliphate under Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (peace be upon him), who frequently delivered sermons and judged disputes in its famous mosque — a mosque that ranks among the four most sacred mosques in Islam. It was also the site where Imam Ali (AS) was martyred while in prayer.
The emphasis on Kufa and its mosque as the heart of Imam Mahdi’s (AS) rule underscores its spiritual and historical importance in Islamic tradition.
