Mashhad – In a spiritually rich gathering held at the Imam Reza Shrine in northeastern Iran, a group of Azeri-speaking women commemorated the legacy of Imam Hussein (AS) during the sacred days of Muharram. The ceremony, titled “Ashura Epic,” reflected on the timeless lessons of Karbala and the critical role of women in preserving Islamic values across generations.

The event took place at Melal Hall, organized by the Central Asia Division of the Deputy Office for Non-Iranian Pilgrims’ Affairs, and brought together distinguished women from the Republic of Azerbaijan and other Turkic-speaking regions.

Spiritual Reflections and Cultural Participation

The program opened with a heartfelt Quran recitation by Zahra Heydarova from Azerbaijan, followed by the collective recitation of the special Salawat for Imam Reza (AS). Participants expressed their greetings, devotion, and condolences in honor of Imam Hussein (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.

Message of Resistance and Sacrifice

Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Alizadeh spoke on the topic “Lessons of Ashura for Today’s Generation.” She emphasized the enduring relevance of Imam Hussein’s stand for justice, truth, and the defense of divine principles.

“When the foundations of religion are threatened,” she said, “one must be prepared to give everything to preserve them.”

Ms. Alizadeh recounted how Imam Hussein (AS) rose against the tyranny of Yazid at a time when Islamic values were under open attack — sacrificing his life, family, and companions to revive the spirit of Islam.

Cultural Expressions of Mourning

The ceremony also featured a moving poetic recitation by Azeri poetess Khiyalah Ismailova, offering a heartfelt expression of grief and loyalty to the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).

The event concluded with the recitation of Ziyarat Ashura by Ms. Mirbeyim Hosseinli, as participants joined in prayer, renewing their spiritual commitment to the path of Imam Hussein (AS).
