Pakistani Scholars Call for Muslim Unity, Praise Iran’s Resistance

KARACHI, Pakistan — At a religious seminar held in Karachi titled “The Message of Husseiniyyat,” prominent Pakistani scholars from across Islamic sects called for Muslim unity, condemned sectarianism, and praised Iran’s stance against U.S. and Israeli policies.

Hawzah News Agency- The event, organized by the Pakistan Ulema Alliance, brought together religious leaders, scholars, and speakers from both Sunni and Shia traditions to reflect on the enduring legacy of Ashura — the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad — and its relevance in confronting modern challenges.

Speakers emphasized that the message of Imam Hussein (PBUH), rooted in justice, sacrifice, and resistance, continues to inspire movements against oppression and global arrogance. They referred to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy as a “brilliant manifestation of the Husseini spirit” in resisting the pressures and aggression of the United States and Israel.

“Iran has shown the world what Husseini resistance looks like in practice,” one speaker stated, “particularly in its firm support for the Palestinian cause and its defiance of colonial influence.”

The scholars also drew attention to the current conflict in Gaza, stating that the people of Palestine have taken up the mantle of resistance “inspired by the spirit of Karbala.” The seminar included references to Iran’s continued support for the Palestinian struggle and its symbolic connection to Islamic values and resistance narratives.

Call for Unity Against Sectarianism

A recurring theme among the speakers was a warning against sectarian divisions, which were described as a key tool in the hands of “Islam’s enemies” to weaken the Ummah. Speakers urged clerics, preachers, and media figures to avoid divisive rhetoric during religious commemorations and instead promote unity, morality, and the shared heritage of the Prophet’s family (Ahlul Bayt).

“No believing Muslim would disrespect the noble companions of the Prophet or the family of the Prophet,” said Mawlavi Mohammad Amin Ansari, one of the leading Sunni voices at the seminar. “Our focus must remain on what unites us, not what divides us.”

The month of Muharram, they said, must serve as a time of “spiritual awakening” and collective reflection — not a platform for amplifying discord.

A Joint Responsibility

In their concluding remarks, participants called for closer cooperation between Sunni and Shia scholars to counter what they described as “sectarian conspiracies” targeting both Islam and Pakistan. The scholars recommended enhanced collaboration with security and administrative institutions to identify and isolate provocateurs and protect the peace of religious gatherings.

The seminar concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold the moral and revolutionary teachings of Imam Hussain (PBUH), promote harmony, and defend the rights of the oppressed globally.
