Hawzah News Agency- A delegation from the Secretariat General of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) paid an official visit to the Vatican Embassy in Baghdad, coordinated by the Cultural Affairs Advisory Office of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation met with the Chargé d’Affaires, Father Charles Lwanga Sowona, to discuss strengthening cultural and religious cooperation and promoting mutual values that support peaceful coexistence and human solidarity.
Mr. Al-Hassan Ne’mah Al-Khafaji, Deputy Head of the Media Department of the Holy Shrine, noted that the delegation expressed condolences on the passing of Pope Francis and recalled his historic visit to Iraq and his meeting with the Supreme Religious Authority in Najaf as a milestone in interfaith dialogue. The delegation also congratulated Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his enthronement and expressed hope that the Pope would visit Karbala in the future.
Both sides stressed the importance of continued cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields to strengthen mutual understanding and universal values.
Father Charles Lwanga Sowona thanked the delegation for this kind gesture and stressed the importance of continued interfaith communication and promoting a culture of peace.
Mr. Haider Al-Mangoushi, Head of the International Media Center at the Holy Shrine, referred to previous cooperation between the Shrine and the Vatican Library, facilitated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This cooperation included the sharing of publications related to the thought and teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
