West’s Hypocrisy in Supporting Quran Desecration under Pretext of Free Speech

Desecration of the Quran in the West under the pretext of defending freedom of speech has taken place repeatedly in recent years.

Hawzah News Agency - This is while any criticism of the Israeli regime’s crimes against the Palestinian people is confronted severely in Western countries.

Such double standards clearly indicate the West’s hypocrisy regarding the issues of human rights and freedom of speech, according to an article by Najla Mahfouz, published by Al Jazeera.

Following are excerpts from the article:

In recent years, there have been many cases of Quran desecrations in the West supported, justified and lauded by Western politicians chanting the slogan of freedom of speech.

These politicians are the same ones who, when faced with a phenomenon they describe as antisemitism, raise cries that resonate around the world.

The uproar from Western media increases every time the Quran is burned or the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is insulted. However, instead of condemning those who disrespect the sacred beliefs of Muslims, they attack the angry Muslims who condemn these desecration and label Muslims as enemies of freedom!

We ask: What is all this blame against Islam for? No one has forced them to convert to Islam. The followers of Islam do not dominate the world. They have not violated anyone’s rights, nor have they occupied any countries.

The deliberate humiliation of Muslims’ beliefs is not limited to the repeated burning of their Holy Book.

In 2012, an offensive movie titled “Innocence of Muslims” was released. Then the French magazine Charlie Hebdo published cartoons insulting the sanctity of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), drawing Muslims’ widespread protest from across the world.

The West prevented the United Nations Human Rights Council from condemning these acts of desecration whereas many individuals have been confronted and harassed by security forces in Western countries for their protests against the Israeli regime’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The Swedish government has not allowed the burning of the Torah but has let Islamophobes burn copies of the Quran many times.

Burning the sacred books of religions brings no victory or achievement. What is certain is that this act diminishes nothing and does not reduce the number of their followers. Rather, it inflames their anger.

Such actions may even pique the curiosity of others to learn about the content of these heavenly books and lead to a correction of their distorted image of Islam and Muslims, which is precisely what has happened.

It is clear that as individuals become more advanced, civilized, and humane, they show greater respect for the beliefs of others, refrain from attacking their sacred symbols, and do not belittle the beliefs of others, either implicitly or explicitly.
