Widespread Condemnation Follows Israeli Minister’s Al-Aqsa Incursion

Palestinians as well as regional countries have strongly slammed Israeli far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s incursion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Hawzah News Agency - According to IQNA, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas denounced the incursion as a “dangerous escalation” and a violation of Palestinian rights. The storming, accompanied by Israeli settlers, took place on Wednesday amid ongoing Israeli genocidal war in Gaza.

In a statement, Hamas described the incursion as part of a broader effort by Israeli occupation to alter the status quo at the holy site. The group called for increased Palestinian mobilization against Israeli forces in response to “systematic violations” against Al-Aqsa. The statement urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League to take concrete steps to counter Israeli actions at the site, warning that such incursions could escalate tensions further.

This marks the sixth time that Ben-Gvir has stormed the Al-Aqsa compound since joining Netanyahu’s cabinet in 2022.

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation of the storming. Similarly, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry warned that the move could exacerbate tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories, posing risks to regional stability.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry also condemned the incursion as a “deliberate provocation”, emphasizing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Turkey also condemned the provocation. “This action by (Israeli prime minister Benjamin) Netanyahu’s accomplices is a dangerous decision that will again aggravate tensions in the region,” read a statement by the country’s Foreign Ministry.

The visit comes as Israel expands its military operations in Gaza, with officials announcing plans to occupy large parts of the strip and enforce further evacuations. Palestinians, facing intensified military pressure, have vowed to remain steadfast in the face of Israeli actions.
