Hawzah News Agency - Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, in a discourse, referred to the topic of "Companionship with Angels" and stated, "Humran ibn A'yan" a prominent student of Imam Baqir (peace be upon him), asks him: 'How is it that in your presence, our hearts are at peace and we become forgetful of worldly matters, and what others possess holds no value for us, but when we leave your presence and associate with people, merchants, and others, we fall back into the trap of worldly attachments?"

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) first responds that this is one of the states of the heart, which sometimes becomes hard and occasionally soft.

«إنّما هی القلوب مرّةً تصعب ومرّة تسهل»

Then he continues that the companions of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) also expressed similar concerns in his presence, saying, "We fear hypocrisy in ourselves."

«یا رسول اللّه نخاف علینا النّفاق»

The Prophet asked: "Why?"

«ولِمَ تخافون ذلک»

The companions said, "Your presence keeps the remembrance of God alive in us and fills our existence with fear of God and forgetfulness of worldly matters. As long as we are in your presence, it's as if we can see the hereafter, paradise, and hell with our own eyes. But after leaving your presence and entering our homes and being with our families, we almost instantly lose all that spirituality."

The Prophet first dismissed the notion of hypocrisy and attributed that change in state to Satan's steps to entice believers toward worldly matters.

«کلاّ إنّ هذه خطوات الشّیطان فیرغّبکم فی الدّنیا»

Then, referring to the matter of companionship with angels, he said, "By God, if you had maintained that state you described, you would have ascended so high that angels would have become your companions, and also you would have achieved such spirituality on earth that you could walk on the water of seas and cross safely."

«واللّه لو تدومون علی الحالة الّتی وصفتم أَنفسکم بها لصافحتکم الملائکة ومشیتم علی الماء.»

Therefore, Companionship with angels is possible, and many have had this experience, whether in sleep or while awake.
