Hawzah News Agency- Speaking on the 5th anniversary of General Soleimani’s martyrdom, Salah al-Zubaidi said the senior Iranian general was not just a military commander, but a unifying civilizational project.
“He was able to transcend religious and ethnic differences and focus on a united goal in the face of global imperialist powers.”
General Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), along with a number of their companions, were assassinated in a US drone attack on Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
Al-Zubaidi said Martyr Soleimani’s complete personality and comprehensive perspective made him a symbol of the resistance axis, drawing various groups and forces of resistance in the region to gather around him.
He also said that Martyrs Soleimani and al-Muhandis sacrificed their lives in defense of Iraq’s sovereignty, stability, and peace, becoming symbols of bravery and dedication.
“Standing together against terrorism, they defended the issues of the Islamic community, thus embodying the spirit of Islamic brotherhood in its most beautiful form.”
These two martyrs had one common goal which was Iraq’s freedom and preservation of the Iraqi nation’s dignity, he said, adding that their pure blood conveys a clear message that the path to freedom and independence is paved with sacrifice and martyrdom.
“The anniversary of their martyrdom is not just a fleeting occasion but it is a moment that inspires concepts of patience and determination. It serves as a reminder that sacrifice for principles and values will not perish but will remain eternal in the consciousness of nations.”
Al-Zubaidi also said the two martyrs embodied a spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of the terrorist and imperialist forces that sought to destroy the region.
The two played a pivotal role in establishing peace and security in the region through their judicious strategy to confront Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) and other Takfiri groups whose goal was destabilizing Iraq, Syria and the entire region, he added.
Their role was not limited to the military aspect but also involved strengthening cooperation among the nations of the region and national forces, he went on to say.
