Ayatollah Makarem

Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, in response to an inquiry about changing weekends to Saturday, stated, “Saturday holidays is one of the rules, customs and symbols of the Jewish religion, and doing this in Muslim countries is similar to Jews and weakens Islamic culture.”

Hawzah News Agency- the text of the inquiry and the response of His Excellency is as follows:

Question:

Greetings; Not long ago, a plan was approved in the Iranian Parliament, during which the working hours were modified and, in fact, except for Friday, Saturday was also added to the holidays. In view of the issues that have arisen, we request your honorable opinion regarding the announcement of Saturday as weekend. And state its contradiction or non-contradiction with the Holy Sharia.

Response:

Saturday holidays is one of the customs and symbols of the Jewish religion, and doing this in Muslim countries is similar to the Jews and weakens Islamic culture, especially at this time when the Zionist regime has brought the oppression of Palestine to the extreme, it should be avoided in any way. The suspicion that it is similar and close to Jews customs should be avoided, and if there is a problem in economic affairs or exchanges with the world, other ways should be considered.
