Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) – Speaking at the closing ceremony for the 5th Conference of Divine Art held in Qom, Iran on Thursday, February 2, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, head of the Iranian Islamic Seminaries asserted, “Today, doors to the world of art have been opened to the Islamic seminaries and they are moving towards establishing a committed and sacred form of art. “
Head of the Iranian Islamic seminaries added, “During my several meetings with the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, his eminence stressed, “ The Islamic seminaries must pay more attention to the world of art; our seminaries must have an artistic insight and use art as a means of guiding people towards divine teachings.”
The Shia cleric further emphasized the importance of designing art-related fields saying, “According to the Islamic sciences, the seminaries must play a part in the world of arts; Islam’s view regarding art must be well-established and introduced. We also need to create disciplines related to the field of art such as the philosophy of art.”
Reiterating that in the West great advances have been made in the fields such as philosophy of art, Ayatollah Arafi said, “We need to define the philosophy of Islamic art as well as its approach,”
“Art must be utilized as a means of reaching our objectives; the Islamic seminaries must also utilize the capacities of art in order to promote divine teachings,” Ayatollah Arafi concluded.
