Quran competition planned in Pakistan in Islamic Unity Week

Hawzah News Agency - The Iranian Cultural Center in Islamabad, Pakistan, plans to organize a Quran competition in the city on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week.

According to the website of the center, it will be held on Wednesday at Karachi Kompani Mosque in cooperation with Sawt al-Qura al-Alami Institute.

24 Quran reciters and memorizers from different parts of Pakistan will take part in the contest in two categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.

The preliminary round of the contest was held earlier in the provinces of Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and six top participants from each of the four provinces made it to the final stage.

Winners of the competition will receive their awards at a ceremony to be held on Thursday on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar is believed by the Shiite Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last

prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
