Hawzah News Agency-The Art of Islam exhibition has been running all summer and has had almost 9000 visitors. As well as traditional art on display, there has been a number of events allowing people to take part in Islamic literature, poetry, ceramics, painting, and calligraphy. The collection has had loans from the private collector Mr Razwan Baig, the British Museum and the Horniman Museum in London, as well as others.
The Museum Director Richard de Peyer said:
"The visitor profile for exhibitions is getting younger and compared with our ethnic breakdown over the past two years it is also much more diverse now with as many as 1 /6th of our visitors to this exhibition coming from a Muslim background.
We will be following up with more work to engage members of the Muslim community who are now more than 7% of the Bucks Population as well as developing great new programmes for wider communities.
We've been very lucky in the loans that we've had for this exhibition. We want to develop other types of programs to offer every year, so we can continually engage with the Muslim community.
It's more important than ever to put the crisis in the Middle East in the context of 1300 years of Islamic civilization and the contribution it has made to world culture."
