Yemen Condemns Saudi Attacks on Mayyun Island, Warns of Threat to Bab al-Mandab Navigation

Yemen’s General Authority for Maritime Affairs has condemned continued Saudi attacks on Mayyun Island in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, including strikes on lighthouses and maritime facilities.

Hawzah News Agency- In a statement, the authority described the attacks as a serious violation that threatens maritime safety in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

It stressed that the attacks constitute acts of terrorism targeting maritime security and safety, in violation of international laws, conventions and international humanitarian law.

The authority warned that repeated attacks on the island’s lighthouses and navigational aids, and the disruption of their functions, could increase maritime risks and endanger international shipping through the strategic waterway.

It held the Saudi regime legally and criminally responsible for the consequences of these attacks, warning of their direct threat to international maritime navigation.

The authority also called on the international community, the UN and relevant maritime organizations, particularly the International Maritime Organization (IMO), to condemn the attacks and take firm action to protect navigation facilities serving international shipping.

Mayyun Island, located in the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, hosts key lighthouses and navigational facilities serving international shipping. The strait connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and is a vital global trade route. Damage to its maritime infrastructure could threaten navigation safety and disrupt international shipping.
