Hawzah News Agency- Father Grigory Matrusov, a representative of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Department for External Church Relations, made the profound remarks on Sunday while attending the historic memorial services honouring the martyred Leader in the Iranian capital.
Speaking to reporters, the Christian cleric reflected on the spiritual magnitude of Ayatollah Khamenei’s life, noting that the martyred Leader embodied the truest essence of divine submission and public service.
“He dedicated his entire life to God and then to the service of the Iranian people,” Father Matrusov stated, emphasising that Ayatollah Khamenei walked the path of righteousness until the moment of his ultimate sacrifice. “His entire life was one of devotion and self-sacrifice for God and the people.”
Addressing the sinister motives behind the February 28 US-Israeli airstrike that claimed the lives of the Leader and several of his family members, the Orthodox priest pointed to a grave miscalculation by the enemies of Resistance.
“They believed that by eliminating Iran’s leader, they could prevail over Iran. But that was a mistake,” Father Matrusov noted. He affirmed that the blood of the martyrs has only fortified the nation’s resolve: “The martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei has made Iran stronger, and I believe the country will emerge even stronger than before.”
The priest’s remarks underscore the profound international and interfaith reverence for Ayatollah Khamenei, whose principled stance against imperialism and Zionism resonated far beyond the borders of the Islamic world.
Hundreds of thousands of mourners, alongside senior officials from dozens of nations, have converged on Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla to bid farewell to the visionary Leader. Following Monday’s massive funeral procession in the capital, the holy bodies will be taken to the sacred city of Qom.
In a testament to his unifying legacy across the Resistance Axis, unprecedented farewell ceremonies are also scheduled for the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in neighbouring Iraq. The martyred Leader will finally be laid to rest in the holy city of Mashhad on Thursday, within the sacred precincts of the shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
