Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Taqi Rouhani made the remarks at a ceremony honoring nurses in Abyek, held to mark the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zainab al-Kubra (PBUH).
Rouhani noted the exalted status of nursing, citing a tradition from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in his final days at the mosque in Medina: "Whoever tends to a sick person for one day and one night, God will gather him with Prophet Abraham, the Friend of God, and he will cross the Sirat like a flash of lightning."
Nurses' Dual Role
The cleric said that in addition to providing physical care, nurses are responsible for lifting patients' spirits.
He described Hazrat Zainab's insight and resilience during and after the events of Karbala as more than a lesson in patience — calling it a complete model of crisis management, preservation of human dignity, and commitment to mission under the harshest conditions, one that can serve as a guiding light for nurses.
Frontline of the Health System
Rouhani said nurses on the frontlines of the health system constantly face critical situations, including infectious diseases, sudden accidents, and severe psychological pressure.
He noted that patience in the school of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) means standing firm on principles, preserving human dignity, and continuing the path of truth even in the face of the most severe hardships.
Nursing as Self-Sacrifice
The Friday prayer leader said the public must show special respect for nurses, as nursing is the only profession that exists for others — meaning sacrificing oneself for the comfort of others.
He described nurses as symbols of sacrifice and dedication — committed men and women who, since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in recent years and during the recent imposed war, have created pure scenes of honor for the Iranian nation through unmatched effort and selflessness.
At the end of the ceremony, nurses from medical centers in Abyek were honored.
