Sheikh Al-Khatib Visits the Iranian Embassy: We Affirm Our Rejection of Ambassador Sheibani's Expulsion and Call on the Authority to Retract

The Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council, Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, visited the headquarters of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut this afternoon and met with the Chargé d'Affaires, Tawfiq Samadi, confirming his stance against the Lebanese Foreign Ministry's decision to expel the ambassador from Lebanon.

Hawzah News Agency- During the visit, Sheikh Al-Khatib stated to reporters: "We came to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to stand by the Islamic Republic and express our denunciation and condemnation of the decision taken to withdraw the accreditation of His Excellency the Ambassador. We issued a statement from the Supreme Islamic Shia Council expressing this position, and we said it is an illegal and illegitimate stance that provokes a large and important segment of this nation—the same segment currently facing Zionist aggression, the destruction of its homes, villages, and cities, and the displacement of its people''.

He added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is the one that stood by Lebanon at all critical junctures and through all crises; it showed its readiness to deal with the State and through the State without factionalism. Therefore, we see absolutely no justification for this hasty and unwarranted position toward the ambassador of a friendly country that stood by Lebanon in all its crises, helped its people, and assisted in confronting the Israeli enemy occupying the land''.

He continued: "At a time when the Israeli enemy violates Lebanese sovereignty, attacks Lebanon, demolishes its villages and cities, and kills its sons, the Authority—not the State—takes this measure against a sisterly country. Previously, civil aircraft from the Islamic Republic were prevented from coming to Lebanon, and today this measure is taken, followed by baseless criticism of Iran, falsely accusing the Islamic Republic and the Iranian Ambassador of interfering in Lebanese internal affairs without evidence, and then taking this stance based on that. Therefore, we call on the Lebanese State, the Lebanese Authority, and the Lebanese Government to retract this decision, which does not serve the interest of Lebanon or the Lebanese people''.

He concluded: "We hope this opinion, which we express for the sake of Lebanon, all Lebanese, and Lebanon's interest, will be heard''.
