Moscow Hosts 21st Annual “Ramadan Tent” Celebrations

Moscow, Russia – The 21st edition of the “Ramadan Tent” runs from February 18 to March 19, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan according to the Islamic calendar. The 2026 program, organized by the Religious Administration of Muslims of Moscow, has been dedicated to the “Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia”, highlighting the city’s commitment to cultural cohesion and interfaith dialogue.

Hawzah News Agency- According to the Religious Administration of Muslims of Moscow, the event is expected to host delegations from approximately 10 countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), alongside representatives from various regions of Russia. Among the invited guests are officials from the Presidential Administration, the Federation Council, and the State Duma, as well as prominent scholars, artists, business leaders, and athletes. Organizers anticipate welcoming over 50,000 participants throughout the month.

The cultural and educational program for 2026 aims to celebrate the heritage of Russia’s diverse peoples while linking it to global traditions. The organizers explained:

“This project seeks to connect the strands of cultural heritage from Russia and the wider world and envision the future generations. ‘Ramadan Tent’ invites guests to reflect on the past, engage with the present, and experience contemporary symbols and narratives that convey values passed down from generation to generation. Our goal is to foster a renewed understanding of cultural heritage as a foundation for progress and prosperity and to highlight the importance of blending the best aspects of the past with the horizons of the future.”

A key feature of the program is the charitable Iftar initiative, which provides free evening meals to participants. In addition to serving meals inside the tent, more than 1,200 Iftar packages are distributed daily outdoors. As part of the “Feed the Fasting” campaign by the Zakat Charity Foundation, over 1,000 individuals receive free Iftar each day, bringing the total number of beneficiaries throughout Ramadan to over 80,000 people.

Daily cultural programming takes place prior to Iftar, featuring art performances, theatrical shows, educational video screenings, and speeches by distinguished guests. The event also hosts a Quran recitation competition and introduces the history and traditions of various peoples and countries through the stories of national heroes.

To ensure the comfort and safety of participants, the tent’s technical equipment has been upgraded to maintain optimal temperatures, with additional heaters installed if necessary. Security measures include fencing and metal detectors at entry points.

The month-long program will conclude with the city’s traditional Eid al-Fitr festival, scheduled for March 21–22, marking the end of Ramadan with communal celebrations.

The project is organized by the Religious Administration of Muslims of Moscow, supported by the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Moscow city government. The initiative involves Moscow’s religious schools, local Islamic associations, and over 500 volunteers. Project management is overseen by Ildar Allaeddinov, Deputy Head of the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation and Mufti of Moscow.

The event underscores Moscow’s ongoing commitment to religious tolerance, cultural exchange, and the social welfare of the Muslim community, providing a space where heritage, faith, and modernity intersect during the holy month of Ramadan.
