Representative of Iran's Leader in India Highlights Civilizational Role of Muslim Women

Hojatoleslam Abdul Majeed Hakimollahi, the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader in India, has underscored the decisive civilizational role of Muslim women during a visit to religious and educational centers in the city of Ranchi.

Hawzah News Agency- During his tour of the Darul Uloom Islamic Seminary and the Women Seminary of Darul Uloom Ahl-e-Sunni, Hojatoleslam Hakimollahi reviewed the academic and training activities of the institutions, which educate more than six hundred male and female students in Islamic sciences.

Speaking to scholars and students, he stressed that women have historically been pillars of Islamic civilization, contributing profoundly to the scientific, cultural, and social development of Muslim societies. He rejected the notion of women’s roles as secondary or symbolic, emphasizing instead their centrality in shaping religious and cultural identity.

Addressing the topic “The Role of Women in the Religious and Social Development of India and the Duties of Muslim Women in Today’s Challenging World,” Hojatoleslam Hakimollahi outlined three key domains in which women continue to shape India’s Muslim community:

Religious role:
Promoting Qur’anic teachings, preserving Islamic identity, engaging in teaching and research, and guiding the younger generation—an area in which female educators in India, he said, play an increasingly decisive role.

Social role:
Contributing to charity, community health, education, and family economic support while maintaining Islamic dignity and moral principles.

Cultural and civilizational role:
Countering media and cultural distortions, defending Islamic values, and presenting successful models of Muslim womanhood in academic and professional spaces.

Hojatoleslam Hakimollahi also highlighted a series of challenges facing Muslim women in the modern era, including media-driven commodification, identity erosion, economic obstacles, and the spread of extremism.

He outlined several essential duties for Muslim women today, including strengthening Quranic and religious literacy, increasing scientific and media awareness, preserving spiritual and ethical foundations, maintaining an active yet dignified social presence, prioritizing the upbringing of a righteous generation, and fostering unity within families and society.

Addressing the students directly, Hojatoleslam Hakimollahi noted: “You are the learners of today and the educators of tomorrow. Every seminary that empowers women is, in reality, shaping an entire generation.”

The program concluded with a question-and-answer session and further educational guidance from the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader. His visit to Ranchi marked another step toward supporting Islamic institutions and reinforcing the vital role of women in advancing the cultural and social aspirations of India’s Muslim community.
