Baghdad Cleric: Iraqi Vote Shows Public Awareness, Warns of Zionist division Plot

Baghdad’s Friday Prayer Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Yassin Mousavi, said the results of Iraq’s recent parliamentary elections reflect the nation’s growing awareness and the defeat of US-backed groups, warning that the Zionist regime is driving a broader project aimed at reshaping the Middle East.

Hawzah News Agency- Delivering his sermons at last Friday’s prayers, the senior cleric and prominent professor at the Najaf Seminary offered a detailed assessment of Iraq’s political landscape and wider regional developments — from the aftermath of the elections to developments in Gaza and Lebanon following the martyrdom of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah.

Ayatollah Mousavi said the election outcome sent a “clear message” of the Iraqi people’s vigilance. He stressed that factions branding themselves as “civil” and operating with US support secured just one parliamentary seat despite fielding nearly 400 candidates. Their attempts to dilute Iraq’s religious identity and weaken social values, he noted, were thwarted by the public’s insight and commitment to the country’s independent character.

He further reported that Shiite representation in the new parliament had risen to 197 seats, making it possible for all three branches of government to be formed from within the “Shiite house” for the first time. However, he said American interference continues to obstruct the establishment of a democracy based on majority rule. The cleric also urged political blocs to adopt firm criteria in choosing the next prime minister — someone pious, competent, resistant to corruption, and capable of implementing a practical reform program.

Turning to regional issues, Ayatollah Mousavi said developments in Gaza and Lebanon are unfolding within a US-Israeli framework to redraw the region, with the Zionist regime positioned as the axis of political and security arrangements. He described the “Peace for Gaza” proposal at the UN Security Council as part of this broader plan to redistribute influence and redefine regional borders, adding that efforts have also been made to draw Iraq into this structure.

The cleric criticized the outgoing Iraqi prime minister’s secret participation in the Sharm el-Sheikh meeting, saying it served attempts to advance normalization and extend his term in office — efforts he said were ultimately blocked by public opposition.

Addressing Lebanon, Ayatollah Mousavi said the martyrdom of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and resistance commanders had not weakened the resistance, contrary to the claims of the enemy. Instead, he said, the unity and strength of the resistance have become more apparent. He added that the Zionist regime’s recent assassinations and airstrikes failed to secure any political or military gains.

Dismissing claims of a “collapse” of the resistance as baseless, he noted that similar remarks made inside Lebanon were quickly withdrawn.

Ayatollah Mousavi concluded by saying Israel’s gamble would soon unravel, adding: “The response is coming and tomorrow is much closer than many imagine.”
