Trials — the Mark of Those Loved by God

Hawzah News Agency- Shaykh al-Saduq narrated from his father, from Ahmad ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad, from Ali ibn al-Sindy, from Ahmad ibn an-Nazr al-Khazzaz, from Amr ibn Shimr, from Jabir that Imam Baqir (pbuh) said:

إذا أحب الله عبدا نظر إليه فإذا نظر إليه، أتحفه من ثلاثة بواحدة: إما صداع، وإما حمى، وإما رمد

When God loves a servant, He looks upon him. And when He looks upon him, He grants him one of three gifts: either a headache, or a fever, or an eye ailment.
