Ayatollah Arafi: Islamic Seminaries Have Thrived for Over a Millennium

Director of Iran’s seminaries, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, underlined the thousand-year historical continuity and enduring influence of Islamic seminaries, calling them vital centers of knowledge, morality, and civilization that have shaped history across generations.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at Qom’s Amrollahi Seminary, he paid tribute to the late Imam Khomeini, the martyrs of the clergy, the Iranian Sacred Defense, and the Islamic Resistance, stressing that the memory and path of the more than four thousand clerical martyrs must remain alive in seminaries.

Ayatollah Arafi praised the Amrollahi Seminary for its excellence in scientific and spiritual education, describing it as one of the country’s leading seminaries thanks to the dedication of its scholars and students.

Referring to the seminary’s unbroken history since the time of the Imams (AS), he said it has remained a living and dynamic institution despite periods of hardship and political repression. Highlighting the perseverance of scholars during the Reza Khan era, he noted that the Qom Seminary survived attempts to suppress religion through the foresight of the late Ayatollah Haeri Yazdi.

He emphasized that the same spirit of steadfastness must continue to guide today’s students in safeguarding the seminary’s intellectual and spiritual legacy.
