Pakistan cleric welcomes Iran's peace proposal, urges Islamic unity

The head of Pakistan's Shia Ulema Council has welcomed Iran's proposal for achieving lasting peace, calling for unity among the Islamic Ummah and a joint effort by Islamic countries to reduce regional tensions.

Hawzah News Agency- In a statement, Hojatoleslam Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, head of the Shia Ulema Council of Pakistan, stressed the importance of unity and brotherhood among the Islamic Ummah and called for avoiding divisions and working collectively to reduce regional tensions and achieve lasting peace.

He expressed deep concern over escalating tensions and the expansion of a war atmosphere in the region, emphasizing the need to strengthen the unity of the Islamic world, utilize diplomatic capacities and pursue joint efforts by Islamic countries to end regional crises.

Referring to the bonds of faith and brotherhood among Muslims, Naqvi said: "The Islamic Ummah is like a single body, and the followers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the seal of the prophets, are brothers to one another. Therefore, ending the current critical conditions and strengthening the position of the Islamic Ummah is a shared responsibility of Islamic countries and responsible figures."

He also stressed that Pakistan must once again play an active and constructive role in resolving disputes, reducing tensions and establishing lasting peace in the region.

Naqvi described the initiatives and proposals put forward by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei and Al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb on peace, mediation and reconciliation as promising and constructive, saying they could pave the way for strengthening regional stability, reducing tensions, confronting economic challenges and creating the ground for development and cooperation among regional countries. However, he said, achieving these goals requires serious decisions and immediate practical action.

Referring to Iran's proposals for mediation and Al-Azhar's support for the immediate formation of a mediation and reconciliation committee, he stressed the need to utilize these capacities. The formation of such a committee with sincere, far-sighted, wise and peace-loving figures could provide the ground for dialogue between the parties involved and be an effective step toward reducing differences and achieving peaceful solutions.

Citing the Holy Quran's eternal message on the need to hold fast to the divine rope and avoid division, the head of Pakistan's Shia Ulema Council stressed the importance of preserving unity and solidarity among Muslims, saying the Islamic Ummah must set aside differences and avoid fueling disputes to create the ground for expanding brotherhood, understanding and mutual respect — because achieving dignity, progress and power for the Islamic world depends on strengthening unity among Muslims and sincere cooperation among Islamic countries.

He added that in the current sensitive conditions, Islamic countries need convergence, dialogue and responsible approaches more than ever so they can overcome differences and adopt a coordinated stance against common challenges.

Stressing the need for Pakistan to take the lead in peace efforts, Naqvi said Pakistan, as an important country in the Islamic world with nuclear capabilities, has the capacity to play an effective role in reducing tensions, facilitating negotiations and strengthening regional stability.

Referring to Pakistan's diplomatic capacities and its ability to win the trust of various parties, he noted that the country must adopt an active and responsible approach and step up diplomatic efforts to bring viewpoints closer, pave the way for negotiations and achieve mutually agreed solutions.

The head of Pakistan's Shia Ulema Council recalled Pakistan's past role in regional diplomacy and stressed the need to revive this constructive approach, calling for the country to assume a more serious responsibility in mediation and peace-building.

He added that the achievements of such efforts would not be limited to reducing conflicts and strengthening regional security, but could also reduce the negative consequences of tensions on the economies of regional countries, expand mutual cooperation and provide new opportunities for development and progress.

In conclusion, Naqvi stressed the need to use all available capacities to contain the current crisis and called for avoiding tension- provoking statements and inflammatory positions. He said vigilance against enemy plots and preventing the escalation of differences are essential, and stressed that in the current sensitive conditions, instead of fueling disputes, focus must be placed on unity, mutual understanding, dialogue and diplomatic solutions.

He noted that cooperation among Islamic countries, strengthening mutual trust and supporting peace initiatives can provide the ground for overcoming existing crises and pave the way for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
