Hawzah News Agency- In his fourth and final appearance at the UN as Colombia’s president, Petro declared: “The United States is making itself an accomplice to genocide, because it is genocide and must be shouted again and again.”
He proposed the creation of a special international force for the defense of peace, not under the Security Council but mandated by the General Assembly, stressing that this force must be “a powerful army of countries that do not accept genocide,” rather than the existing blue-helmet peacekeepers.
Petro criticized the ineffectiveness of diplomacy regarding Gaza and condemned the inaction of the international community. He reaffirmed his support for South Africa’s lawsuit against the Zionist regime at the International Court of Justice and recalled Colombia’s suspension of coal exports to Israel as part of his government’s stance.
The Colombian president also denounced US military actions in Caribbean waters near Venezuela, describing Washington’s anti-drug policies as tools of domination over nations of the Global South. In addition, he reiterated the urgent need to end dependence on oil and to accelerate efforts to address the climate crisis.
Petro’s remarks echoed the positions of other international leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Chilean President Gabriel Boric, who all condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and stressed the necessity of halting the killing of civilians and advancing toward a two-state solution.
