Syria on the Brink: Iraqi Cleric Calls for Muslim Unity to Save Syria

Following the recent escalation of the crises in Syria, Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Taqi Modarresi, a prominent Iraqi scholar, has issued a statement emphasizing that the only way to save Syria is through Muslim unity and immediate action by the international community. He warned that continuing this trend could lead to the complete collapse of this historic country.

Hawzah News Agency- Referring to the escalating situation in Syria, Ayatollah Modarresi called on Muslims and regional governments to prevent the collapse of Syria. He emphasized that Syria is in great danger today. The conspiracies of the enemies and the negligence of some domestic and regional actors have brought the country to the brink.

The text of the statement is as follows:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

In the holy month of Ramadan, the month of divine mercy, when mercy envelops hearts and empathy is strengthened, Muslims were faced with shocking news of the current events in Syria.

These events have raised serious questions about the path of this ancient country. Will the region witness a new civilizational regression in Syria?

Will Syria remain a sovereign, united and influential country in regional events?

Or will we witness this stable country being caught in storms and seditions due to the conspiracies of global Zionism, the great negligence of Arab countries and the ignorance of some influential people in Syrian events?

This situation has been exacerbated by the creation of a civil war, the repetition of massacres in places such as Rwanda, and the abuse of international terrorists’ presence on Syrian soil to create a crisis and then commit massacres such as what happened on the Syrian coast, in which thousands of innocent children, women and men were killed.

We call on the Muslim nations and the leaders of the region, as well as the wise authorities of the new Syrian government, to work seriously to stop the collapse of this resilient Islamic and Arab country.

The Syrian authorities are facing a difficult and historic test today. They - as well as the countries of the region - must persistently strive to preserve what remains of this beloved country, lest global Zionism, enemies and terrorists exploit the current situation and target this country, disintegrate it and destroy its foundations.

Mohammad Taqi Modarresi
