Three Traditions of the Prophets

Hadith of the Day is a daily feature highlighting timeless sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), offering insights into faith, ethics, and spirituality for contemporary life.

Hawzah News Agency- Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Ali ibn al-Hakam, tracing it back to Imam Sadiq (pbuh) that he said:

ثَلَاثٌ مِنْ سُنَنِ الْمُرْسَلِینَ الْعِطْرُ وَ إِحْفَاءُ الشَّعْرِ وَ کَثْرَهُ الطَّرُوقَهِ.

Three things are from the traditions of the Prophets: perfume, removing hair, and frequent relations with spouse.[1]

[1]Note: The meaning of the Hadith is that the Prophets, peace be upon them, encouraged people toward these matters, whether they practiced them themselves or not. Therefore, this does not contradict the Almighty’s saying regarding Yahya (John) that he was ‘a leader and chaste [abstaining from women],’ nor does it contradict Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, who was never married. But for the perfection of a society, it would be the best if people have frequent relations with their spouse so they face less evil in the society both men and women.
