Hawzah News Agency- Syrian news sources reported that the terrorist explosion in the Imam Ali (AS) Mosque located in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs province occurred during Friday prayers and when there was a large presence of worshippers.
Al-Mayadeen also described the incident as a terrorist operation and reported that some initial sources considered it a suicide attack.
International media outlets such as the New York Times, Al-Jazeera, Reuters and Al-Arabiya also covered the explosion, giving initial figures of 3 to 6 dead and several injured, but Syrian sources such as SANA reported the final figure as 6 dead and 21 injured.
The mosque is located in an area with a majority Alawite population and the explosion occurred on Friday (December 26, 2025). No group has claimed responsibility, but sectarian violence against Alawite communities in Homs has increased in recent months. Some of the injured are in critical condition and the death toll is expected to rise.
According to regional security experts, the explosion occurred at a time when Syria continues to face security challenges and sectarian conflicts after political changes.
