Hawzah News Agency- Speaking to La Repubblica, Giacomo Cardinali, deputy director of the Vatican Library, said the initiative came in response to requests from visiting Muslim researchers. The library’s administration welcomed the idea and prepared a dedicated room equipped with a prayer carpet.
Founded in the 15th century, the Vatican Library is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious research institutions. It preserves nearly 80,000 manuscripts, 50,000 archival documents, close to two million printed volumes, and hundreds of thousands of coins, medals, and engravings.
Father Cardinali highlighted that the library’s vast collection includes ancient manuscripts of the Holy Qur’an, as well as Hebrew, Abyssinian, Arabic, and Chinese texts — reflecting its universal character. He described the institution as a “library for all humanity,” open to scholars of every nationality and faith.
