‘'Who is Hussain'’ volunteers join Argentina’s Luján Pilgrimage to serve Catholic pilgrims

Each October, thousands of people gather for the Luján Pilgrimage—the largest Catholic event in Argentina—held in the Luján district, about 70 kilometers from Buenos Aires. This annual event commemorates the first recorded apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1910 and welcomes participants of all backgrounds, regardless of religious affiliation.

Hawzah News Agency- Now in its 51st year, the pilgrimage is open to anyone seeking spiritual fulfillment or personal challenge. While most pilgrims complete the journey on foot, others choose to cycle, skate, or even run the distance.

The 2025 pilgrimage took place from October 4th – 6th.

In addition to the pilgrims themselves, many attend the event specifically to offer support and assistance. Among them this year were volunteers from the 'Who is Hussain' initiative and the Argentine Islamic Action group. Their mission was twofold: to provide aid to the pilgrims and to share the message and legacy of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).

Despite the Catholic nature of the event, the presence of Muslim volunteers reflected a spirit of interfaith solidarity, compassion, and shared human values.
