Hawzah News Agency- “As in previous years, Imam Reza's (pbuh) on-foot pilgrims began marching from the most distant parts of the country towards Mashhad after Arba’een last week,” Irna quoted Hossein Rezaei as saying on Tuesday.
He further stated that as of Tuesday’s morning, 223,156 pilgrims traveling on foot have arrived in Mashhad in 6,205 caravans from nine routes.
“Service stations have been set up along the routes leading to Mashhad, providing welfare and accommodation services to the pilgrims,” the spokesman for the Society Serving Imam Reza Pilgrims Traveling on Foot underscored.
Rezaei added that the number of pilgrims walking to Imam Reza’s (PBUH) holy shrine is anticipated to reach 500,000 by the end of this year's Safar month.
The 30th of Safar to fall on Wednesday, September 4 this year, marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (pbuh), the eighth Imam of Shia Islam.
