Hawzah News Agency- Caretakers at mosques in Balik Pulau have started rolling out mats and cleaning up the compounds in preparation for the coming Ramadan month.
Masjid Qariah Simpang Empat committee member Ismail Kassim said Muslims in the area were expected to break fast and perform terawih (special prayers during Ramadan) at their mosque.
He said a bigger crowd usually gathered during the fasting month.
“The number of people is usually 150 to 200 each evening.
“We will be preparing bubur lambuk three times a week to be distributed after the Asar prayers,” he said, adding that a portion would be kept for those breaking fast at the mosque.
Ismail said that during Ramadan, tazkirah (religious lectures) would be held daily at many mosques after the evening and terawih prayers.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, when Muslims around the world fast during the daylight hours.
