Hawzah News Agency- Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi has addressed the "Quran's contradiction regarding the universality or Arabness of the invitation to Islam" and said:
Question:
The Quran has verses that introduce themselves as having been revealed for the Arabs and the Hijaz region; on the other hand, it also has verses that claim to be universal. How is this contradiction resolved in the Quran?
Brief answer:
The teachings of Holy Quran are eternal and universal; however, the global invitation of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was stage by stage. In the first stage, the Messenger of God was commissioned to invite his family, in the next stage, he was commissioned to invite the Arabs, and in the next stage, he was commissioned to invite all of humanity. When the foundations of Islam were solidified among the Arabs, the Prophet was commissioned to preach worldwide, and these facts are stated in numerous verses of the Quran and do not contradict each other. Furthermore, the term "Umm al-Qura" for Mecca may indicate its global centrality, and the term "I am around it" may refer to the entire world.
