Hawzah News Agency- On the June 13, 2014, eight years ago specifically, the call of the supreme religious authority to save Iraq and the world from the danger of the criminal ISIS gangs, was launched from the minbar of the Friday prayer at the holy shrine of the Master of the martyrs; Imam Aba Abdillah Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him).
The call of His Eminence Sayed Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, was a fatwa of the sufficient duty of the Jihad to defend Iraq, its land, its people and its sanctities against the terrorist ISIL gangs, in order to save citizens' lives and dignity, considering the killed ones in this path as martyrs.
The response came quickly and resoundingly, as official government estimates of the registrants reached about three and a half million volunteers.
The heroic men of Iraq, young and old, valiantly rushed to the battlefields, to wage the battles to fend off the ISIS aggression with great courage and enthusiasm.
They fought a war that lasted three years and six months, in which heroism and humanity were manifested in protecting civilians and even the families of the enemies, until the Almighty, the Exalted God bestowed upon them the great victory, and they were able to defeat the terrorist gangs of ISIS and cleansed the usurped lands of their abomination and eliminate their so-called state, so they saved Iraq and even the countries and peoples of the region, and that positive impact of this epic spread to the whole world.
Victory was achieved only due to two main reasons; the first is the blessed fatwa and the second is the positive response of the Iraqis to it.
