اَللّـهُمَّ زَيِّنّي فيهِ بِالسِّتْرِ وَالْعَفافِ،

O Allah, on this day, beautify me with covering and chastity,

وَاسْتُرْني فيهِ بِلِباسِ الْقُنُوعِ وَالْكَفافِ،

cover me with the clothes of contentment and chastity,

وَاحْمِلْني فيهِ عَلَى الْعَدْلِ والإنصاف،

let me adhere to justice and fairness,

وَآمِنّي فيهِ مِنْ كُلِّ ما أخاف،

and keep me safe from all that I fear,

بِعِصْمَتِكَ يا عِصْمَةَ الْخائِفينَ .

by Your protection, O the protector of the frightened.

The literal meaning of the Arabic term “Sitr” is that of a covering which is used to cover things. Similarly, ‘ifāf [meaning chastity and modesty] is defined as abstinence from any unlawful actions, whether illicit sexual relations or other unlawful acts.
