The Shia community is organizing two Ashura processions in Toronto to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husayn.

Hawzah News Agency-The Shia community is organizing two Ashura processions in Toronto to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the prophet of Islam Mohammad.

The first event will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 11 am at Queen’s Park, and the second on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 9:30 am at Mel Lastman Square.

The religious rituals in Canada include prayers, a ceremonial chest beating (matham/latmiya) as a display of devotion to Imam Husayn, in remembrance of his suffering and a commitment to oppose oppression and bring about truth and justice to the world.
