Iranian media condemns Britain's silencing of freedom of press

Iranian media professionals consider Britain's sanctions on the journalist Ali Rezvani a violation of freedom of the press.

Hawzah News Agency –Iranian Islamic media personnel has condemned the British decision to impose sanctions on Ali Rezvani, a journalist and reporter for Iranian radio and television.

Mehr News Agency reported in a statement that the British authorities are violating the most basic international human rights laws whilst allegedly glorifying democracy and freedom of expression.

The agency accused London of false democracy claims and of targeting the voices of truth and all free voices.

The British government had accused the journalist of being involved in the “interrogation of detainees,” broadcasting “forced confessions", as well as spreading “misinformation regarding political prisoners, dissidents, and hostages.”

He was also accused of being employed with intelligence agencies and "peddling propaganda".

This comes after Britain imposed sanctions on 3 Iranians, Ali Qenaa Kar, the investigator in the Evin Court, Gholam Reza Ziaei, the former head of Evin prison, and Ali Rezvani, a correspondent for the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation.
