Hawzah News Agency - During a live TV broadcast on the occasion of National Nurses Day, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated that the nurses’ work in treating patients with Covid-19 in the country is something amazing. He said, “People have understood the importance and value of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
During a live TV broadcast this morning, Sunday, on the occasion of the auspicious birth of Lady Zeinab al-Kubra (pbuh) and National Nurses Day, Imam Khamenei congratulated all nurses on this occasion and stated that a nurse is like an angel of mercy for patients. He said, “Our dear nurses have done an important job during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a much more difficult and stressful situation than usual, and they have done great work that is truly amazing.”
The Supreme Leader of the Revolution offered his condolences to the honorable families who have lost their beloved family members during the pandemic and added, “A nurse is like an angel of mercy for patients. This metaphor truly illustrates a fact. It is not an exaggeration at all. A nurse deals with both the patient's body and the patient's soul.”
In explaining these two aspects, Imam Khamenei stated, “As for the patient’s body, a nurse is in fact the coworker, colleague and assistant of the physician. An important part of the work for a patient's physical recovery is done by the nurse. This is about the patient’s body. When it comes to communicating with the patient’s soul, the nurse sympathizes with, caresses, and comforts the patient. This is a very important role. Nurses help the patient's body and accelerate his/her recovery, even making recovery possible in some cases. They also help his/her soul and calm his/her feelings. This may be with a smile, a soothing word or a kind gesture. They create a good feeling in the patient and improve his/her morale.”
In this regard, he also stated, “Concerning the physical recovery of the patient, a nurse is a coworker and assistant of the physician. No matter how competent and capable the doctor is, the absence of a nurse may make physical recovery difficult.”
Referring to the more difficult and more worrying situation for nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic due to the risk of infection, Imam Khamenei said, “The great work the nurses have done during this period has caused them to become more honorable and dearer than ever before to the people. But this is not enough. The authorities have responsibilities toward the nurses and they should carry out these duties.”
At the end of his speech, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution addressed the duties and responsibilities of the officials with regards to the efforts and sacrifices of the nurses and added, “I said this to the esteemed officials about three or four years ago. I said they needed to hire about thirty thousand nurses. They had problems doing this and said this was not possible, so this was not done. Recently, some measures have been taken and these should be earnestly followed up.”
