“Human Rights Day” March show solidarity with Muslims

Civil groups are co-sponsoring a community march on International Human Rights Day to show solidarity with the communities whose human rights have been violated by the Trump administration.

Hawzah News Agency (Minnesota, US) - The Anti-War Committee and the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) are co-sponsoring a community march on International Human Rights Day to show solidarity with the communities whose human rights have been violated by the Trump administration. Protesters will rally in Powderhorn Park, Minneapolis, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. and will then march on Lake Street past hundreds of immigrant-owned businesses to say “No ban, no wall, sanctuary for all!”

Meredith Aby-Keirstead, from the Anti-War Committee, explains, “We hold a protest every year to highlight the importance of International Human Rights Day. This year it is more important than ever to protest. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Trump’s racist Muslim ban is legal. The civil rights of Muslims need to be defended!”

William Martinez from MIRAC agreed, “Trump's Muslim ban is not only racist, it's criminal and inhumane. Those of us who are victims of U.S. wars have seen our friends and family killed for U.S. interests and do not come here willingly. We are violently forced from our homes. We uproot ourselves into a system that criminalizes us for our color or for our religion. All immigrants from all countries and all of our allies in the U.S. and around the world must resist this attack on our Muslim sisters and brothers. We will unite in struggle on International Human Rights Day to defend the rights of all immigrants.”

The event is sponsored by the MN Anti-War Committee and MIRAC's No More Deportations Campaign.
