Iraq's Coordination Framework Warns Against US Dictates, Fallout of Al-Shib Border Crossing Closure

Shaker al-Tamimi, a lawmaker from Iraq's Coordination Framework, has warned of blatant US interference in the country's internal affairs and called for a firm stance against Washington's pressure.

Hawzah News Agency- In an interview, al-Tamimi warned of the danger of continued overt US interference in Iraq's internal affairs, stressing that Washington—despite announcing the withdrawal of its military forces—continues to impose its dominance and meddle in the details of national decision-making, which constitutes a clear violation of the country's sovereignty and constitutional independence.

Al-Tamimi said the United States continues to impose its agendas and seeks to influence Iraq's political, security, and economic processes, stating that the announced withdrawal of US military forces has not ended the efforts of the US and its embassy in Baghdad to dominate and impose their will.

He added that these US behaviors and actions constitute a violation of all international charters and diplomatic norms and a direct breach of national sovereignty—for which Iraqis have offered much blood to preserve and protect against foreign dependency and hostage-taking.

Al-Tamimi called on the federal government and relevant institutions to adopt a national, courageous, and firm stance, and not to submit to US pressure and dictates in any way. He stressed the necessity of standing firmly against these interventions and ending Washington's suspicious movements in order to consolidate the government's authority and the independence of its decision-making.

In this context, the British news outlet Amwaj Media, citing a government source, reported that Baghdad has rejected a request from the US Treasury Department to completely close the borders with Iran.

Meanwhile, the recent move to close the Al-Shib (Chazzabeh) border crossing with Iran prompted reactions in Maysan Province, with Hussein al-Muriyani, a member of the Maysan Provincial Council, stating that the crossing was closed suddenly and without the knowledge of the governorate, and noting that the province should have been informed before such measures were taken.
