Hawzah News Agency | Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali, peace be upon him, says in wisdoms no.89 of Nahj al-Balaghah:
Whoever sets right what is between himself and God, God will set right what is between him and the people. Whoever sets right the affairs of his Hereafter, God will set right the affairs of his worldly life. And whoever has an inner admonisher within himself, God will appoint a protector for him.
Explanation:
At times, we have certain goals and aspirations in mind, yet we either do not know the path that leads to them or, mistakenly, find ourselves following the wrong path.
Sometimes, seemingly insurmountable knots arise in a person’s worldly life, occupying all of his thoughts and concerns and overshadowing every other aspect of his affairs.
Problems with a particular person, an organization, or a group are among the things that can embitter a person’s life and leave him caught in a continuous cycle of difficulties.
Indeed, what should one do? What is the way out of all these worldly worries and difficulties?
Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali, peace be upon him, identifies the solution as establishing a connection with God. In other words, there are certain duties and rights that exist between a human being and his unique Creator. If a person sets right what lies between himself and Almighty God—and since the words of the Imam (peace be upon him) constitute a promise from him, and since he is the vicegerent of God, his promise is, in reality, a promise from God—then God has likewise promised to set right what lies between that person and others. And indeed, God never breaks His promise. (1)
Therefore, to reach the shore of tranquility, there is no path other than connecting with the One who is worshipped—the One in whose hands lie the keys to all hearts. He has the power to turn the hearts and thoughts of all people toward a servant whose entire attention is directed toward Him.(2)
How can someone who pays no attention to God, the Almighty, and remains indifferent to His wishes ever taste true tranquility in his worldly life?
The words of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, can, in reality, place a supernatural power at the disposal of God’s servant—a power capable of influencing the hearts and thoughts of others and bringing them into harmony with him. For when a servant fills his entire being with Divine light, he is granted a Divine attraction. As a result, he can influence those around him, soften their hearts toward him, and inspire them to accompany and support him.
And this is precisely the meaning: the servant of God seeks to set right what lies between himself and his Lord, and his Lord, in turn, sets right what lies between him and others.
So why, indeed, should we allow ourselves to lose this luminous relationship and interaction? Are we not seeking to set our affairs right? Are we not seeking true tranquility?...
Notes:
(1). «وَعْدَ اللَّهِ لَا يُخْلِفُ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ»
[This is] a promise of Allah: Allah does not break His promise, but most people do not know. (Qur'an; 30:6)
(2). «یَا مُقَلِّبَ اَلْقُلُوبِ وَ اَلْأَبْصَارِ»
"O Turner of hearts and eyes." (Reported in numerous sources)
