Hawzah News Agency- In a statement, Hussein al-Mousawi, Deputy Secretary-General for Media Affairs of the al-Nujaba Movement, said the "shameful submission and groveling before the American will" left no doubt that Washington's decisions govern Iraq.
"Talk of sovereignty, and the pursuit of it, remains nothing but a dream," he said.
Al-Mousawi expressed astonishment that a government presented as representing the majority, backed by more than 188 lawmakers, including 95 resistance lawmakers, had failed to oppose the measure.
He warned that the decision would inflict heavy material and moral losses on Iraq and its people, with effects lasting many years that no later words or positions would be able to undo.
Al-Mousawi pointed to Iran's record of support for its neighbor. He recalled how Tehran opened its borders to Iraqi trade, placed its weapons stockpiles at Iraq's disposal, and sent its men to defend the country at a time when everyone else had abandoned it.
Iran also allowed Iraqi oil to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz and continues to supply the gas that runs Iraq's power plants.
Citing the Quranic verse "Shall the reward of good be anything but good?" (Surat al-Rahman, 55:60), al-Mousawi asked whether this was how the debt was being repaid and gratitude shown in practice.
He closed his statement with a verse from Surat Yunus (10:35): "What is the matter with you? How do you judge?"
The statement follows Najaf International Airport's suspension of all flights to and from Iran from 2:00 am on Friday.
